Make-Up Photos

Using the apple app PicCollage I was able to put together photos which show the close up of the different make-up wounds that we created to make our movie trailer more effective and to use some of the conventions that link to our genre of horror.

Make-Up we used

When creating our film trailer we wanted to use make-up to create different effects within our trailer. After analysing a variety of different horror movie trailers we noticed that all of them contained minimal make-up effects but they were used in an effective way. We wanted to portray a similar image in our own trailer, we aimed to create different effects using the make up but also we had to make sure it was simple enough for us to carry out as we are not used to using this sort of make up on an everyday basis. In order for us to do this we brought make-up from the following websites:

Movie Trailer Editing- Dust Effect

When we was filming the Ouija Board coming out of the cupboard, we used talcum powder to create the dust effect. As we was filming it we couldn't manage to get it to go slow enough to create the effect we wanted. once we had uploaded the clip onto iMovie we realised that the tools on iMovie would allow us to do this. We selected the scene that we wanted to decrease the speed of and selected the little settings icon. It then gave us a drop down menu to select clip adjustments.

It then gave us this menu. As you can see there is a speed section, with a picture of a tortoise and a hare. It allows you to either decrease or increase the speed of clip you have selected. We decreased the speed towards the tortoise, it was at 100% but we decided that with the speed at 40% it created a better effect.

Editing the colour effects

In order for us to change the colour effects on certain clips, we selected clip adjustments and then video. The effect that we wanted was to make it look more darker than it originally was when we filmed. we decreased the level of saturation by a quarter and we also decreased the brightness

Adding text into our movie trailer

To add text into our movie trailer, we selected the T icon on the tool bar.

It then gave us a selection of different types of theme we wanted the font to be and how it was going to enter onto the screen with a transition as the movie is playing.

We were then able to type in the text of our choice. By selecting the 'show fonts' tab located at the top left hand side of the black box, allowed us to choose the font colour, size and style that we wanted. With the different font style options we experimented with lots of different styles to see which on would fit in our trailer with our genre the best.

Health and Safety

Healthy and Safety is something that we had to take into consideration before we started to film our movie trailer. To create one of the effects in our movie trailer we decided to set fire to the Ouija board. To do this we used candles and a pack of matches. As we was doing it in front of all the cast we needed to make sure everyone was a safe distance away from the area where we was using the fire. We decided that the best location to film this was in the garden as it was outside the house and there was lots of space around us. As you can see in the image below, we had a bucket full of water so it enabled us to put the fire out as soon as we had filmed the scenes we wanted to. The bucket of water was touching distance away from us so it was easy for us to drop the Ouija board straight in the bucket to extinguish the flames. We done this successfully and no one was harmed by the flames of the fire.

Evidence of us filming

Here is a photo taken by one of our cast members Emily, showing Remi and I filming a scene and looking back to check that the lighting is okay and whether or not we need to re-film that particular scene again.

Starting the Editing Process

Now we have finished our filming day, we have uploaded all of our clips to iMovie as this is the software we are going to be using to create our movie trailer. Our aim is to now go through all the video clips and see which ones are at a quality standard for us to start to piece together the different scenes of the trailer. As a group we have already come across a variety of different shots that are not good enough, this due to the lighting being to dark and some of the characters laughing through their scene. We have also got very good shots that we like and will be able to use in the trailer.

Making the ouija pointer

When we decided that the Ouija board was going to be one of the props within our trailer we asked James to help us with the design of the pointer to go with the board. As a technology student he managed to engrave the design onto a piece of wood which made it look more realistic and professional instead of us just printing out the design on paper.

Clothing for the Characters

After looking at a variety of different horror movie trailers we have noticed that there is very rarely set costumes, it is normal every day to day clothing. As we start to plan for our filming day on the 17th November, we have decided to plan on what everyone should wear.

We want to keep is as low cost as possible, so we have decided that everyone is able to pick what they want to wear and are able to wear their own clothing. We want the dress code to be casual as if they were going to go to a girls gathering.

As I am playing the Mum, the girls and I have decided that I am going to wear a blouse with a pair of jeans. We hope that this will make me slightly different from the rest of the girls who plan on wearing a simple top with leggings/jeggings and some may wear a leather jacket.

We are not going to have any outfit changes during the day, however, the only thing that will change is our make-up. Scars and wounds will be created and our make-up will be done for when we start to film the later part of the movie trailer, after The Ouija Board scene.

Ouija Board Designs

As none of us have ever created a Ouija Board before I used Google to research some designs that there are to get a rough idea on ours should look. We wanted to make it look as good as possible and we thought that gathering different ideas of examples of Ouija boards would help us. As you can see all three Ouija boards contain the same content and the designs are similar but also different in there own ways. For our Ouija board we are going to keep the same content as these but create out own design.

Changes to our cast

After agreeing that the filming day would be on Sunday 17th November and the main base location where we would start the filming is in Roydon, some of the cast members had a few issues with these arrangements. As a result of these decisions, Owen was unable to get travel arrangements to Roydon so therefore we decided that we should remove his scene from the script. However, as James would be left as the only boy we thought that it would be an unbalance of gender, with only one boy in the trailer so we have decided to replace these scenes with a new cast member Lizzie. She has agreed that the location and date is OK for her and she is able to make it.

Horror Make-Up Research

As we have decided to go with genre of Horror for our movie trailer I decided to do some research into the make-up.

This is one of the images that I found on Google which I liked. The reason I liked it was because how simple the wound is. We need to look at ideas that are going to be easy enough for us to create as well and I think that this would be do able. We want the make up to be simple as possible but to also be effective.

This is another image that I found using Google, which directed me tho this horror blog. I personally found this persons blogger really useful. It provided me with step by step guide on how to create wounds on the face. For someone who hasn't used make up in this form before it was a good blog to follow as it will help us to create the same effects when we come to filming our own personal horror movie trailer. These are simple and easy to create which is what we need to look for.

Short Storyboard

This is a storyboard that I created on www.storyboardthat.com. It is a short summary of what we plan to happen in our movie trailer.

Ashleigh is the main character who has her friends over at her house before she moves. She finds the Ouija Board in her cupboard and suggests that they all play it together. Remi is not that comfortable with playing it. the consequences of playing the Ouija board is that both Ashleigh is the first one that you see in the trailer that becomes possessed as an outcome of playing the game. Later you see Remi is also possessed but the audience don't know how as we want them to question the happenings, which will hopefully entice them to go and see the whole movie.

Here is the link that will take you to that page where I created this:

Decisions on Filming Day

Today in class, Remi, Charli and I decided that Sunday 17th November 2013 would be a good day to film our movie trailer. However, we needed to make sure that the rest of the cast that we have picked to be in our movie trailer are also available. To do this we created an inbox and invited everyone into the conversation as we believed this was the most reliable way to make sure everyone got the message and to see the responses for who could and could not attend the day.

Our Pitch

This is the pitch that we created for our movie trailer The Ouija Deal and presented it to our class. We decided to create a presentation on Prezi to make it easy to access and for ideas to be clearly portrayed to the audience. We have looked at the audience we aim to target, locations and the cast list amongst other ideas.

Possible Locations

One of the locations that Charli had suggested was Severalls Mental Hospital which is located in Colchester. Although this location would fit into our genre and be an ideal setting for a horror movie we came to the conclusion that this location would not be possible. As we have 7 memebers of our cast all travel to this location as it is a fair distance away from Harlow, it wouldn't be possible for us all to get transport. When also researching the location on Google it showed us that the area was actually shut off to the public and it wouldn't be possible for us to get inside the building. With the dangers surrounding the building, we also had to think of our own health and safety and whether or not it was going to be safe for us to film in the surrounding areas. Although it looks like a good scenery for us to film, it was not realistic of possible for us to attend this location to film the scenes that we wanted.

The Ouija Deal Ideas

These are a few ideas that we started of with. when thinking about the location we need to be realistic. We need to take into consideration the journey and how accessible the location would be for every cast member to get there. We have also looked at the variety of genres that we are able to explore as we already know that we want to create a horror movie trailer, but their are many different genres within Horror that we can choose from. We also need to research different make up and photography ideas as it will add to the effects and hopefully assist in making our movie trailer more professional.
The main idea is not in as much detail as we plan to add a variety of ideas that all three have came up with to develop the story further.

Film Titles

As a group we came up with five different titles that we thought would be acceptable. To get an idea of what other people thought about the titles as well, we each carried out a tally, asking 10 people what they thought was the best one. Overall, out of the 30 people we asked, The Ouija Deal came out favourite for Charli, Remi and I. As a result of this we have decided to call our movie The Ouija Deal.

Superman Swede Evaluation Video

This is our evaluation of our Superman swede movie trailer. We talk about both what we think was good about the outcome, what we have learnt and the improvements that we could make if we was to do it again.

Superman Swede Trailer

This is our Sweded Movie Trailer of Superman that Remi, Charli and I created. We learnt a lot while creating this short swede, it gave us an insight on how to use iMovie, as it was my first time using this software. By creating this short swede movie trailer we have learnt different techniques such as transitions, trimming the clips, adding sound and other various tools we used to create this movie trailer which will help us when we come to make our final piece of our own movie trailer.
